Tom Burgess, LICM

Tom has twenty five years experience working for award winning landscape contractors in design, business development and operational roles, with commercial property owners and managers, HOA’s and association managers as his clients He believes there is a need for a ‘third party’ consultant who can advocate for his clients and offer objective and expert advice on landscape matters, for both proper horticultural care and treating the landscape like the asset it is.

He graduated from Sparsholt College in the UK in landscape design and started his landscape career in the Northwest as an assistant designer with the nationally recognized Hendrikus Schraven Group. A high- end residential landscape construction company, with Bill Gates and Paul Allen as clients, Hendrikus introduced Tom to sustainable practices in landscape management that he still uses today.

Tom moved to Northwestern Landscape who were at that time the largest privately owned landscape company in Washington. Northwestern completed some outstanding commercial installation projects including Benaroya Hall in Seattle and the Willows Corporate Park in Redmond. He then spent several years at TruGreen LandCare in their Bellevue and Everett facilities in both business development and operations management roles.

After time back in the UK with his family, Tom became a minority equity partner with Signature Landscape Services in 2004 and helped grow the company from $3 million to $12 million annual revenue over a 10-year period. He was instrumental in introducing sustainable landscape management practices into the commercial property and association community market. Signature was acquired by Monarch Landscape Companies in 2015. Tom stayed on in a regional role for another 6 years, helping with business development and the transition and roll up of 6 companies on the West Coast under the ‘Monarch’ umbrella.
